Small Utility Engines
Johnson Matthey is one of the first companies to provide catalysts for `green` lawnmowers in Europe and for propane powered floor care equipment in the US. Johnson Matthey provides a complete line of catalysts for both handheld and non-handheld utility engines under 37kW (50hp). Catalyst can be supplied on either ceramic or metal substrates for either rich-burn or lean-burn engines.
In 2007, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) issued Tier 3 emission standards for new small gasoline powered engines ≤ 25 Hp (≤19 Kw). This regulation primarily affected non-handheld lawn & garden equipment and portable electrical generators. In 2008, The US EPA issued a national Phase 3 emission standard that was consistent with CARB`s Tier 3 affecting new engines produced, starting 2011.
