Sound Projector Arrays (SPA) System
The Sound Projector Array (SPA) systems are primarily used to deflect fish from entering water intakes and channels, but can also be used to deflect fish from within pumping chambers and herding them as part of fisheries management protection or exclusion measures. A SPA system is analogous to an underwater Public Address system that produces a repellent sound gradient in front of an intake and is used to block rather than guide fish. Repulsion efficiency is especially high for pelagic fish. Over the last 25 years FGS has installed over 100 SPA systems, and the systems now have sophisticated monitoring inbuilt diagnostics as well as optional active pressure compensator systems for locations where there are large tidal variations, or extended service intervals are required. Where additional deterrent is required the Sound Projectors are coupled with our High Intensity Lights to provide a SILAS system.
- System designed to deter and deflect fish.
- Suitable for most intakes, including power stations, industrial facilities, drinking water, irrigation and pumping stations.
- Prevents fish entrainment.
- Ability to offer real time monitoring and diagnostics
- Multifunctional – it can be used with our other systems
- Helps eliminate plant outages due to inundation of large shoals of fish
- Lower capital costs compared to mechanical/physical screens
- Lower environmental impact compared to mechanical/physical screens
