MEAB SMCS - Model 10 -Static-Mixer and Centrifugal-Separator System
The SMCS-10 equipment is a static-mixer /centrifugal-separator. It consists of: A static mixer (about 3 cc). The H-centrifuge (H-10, about 15 cc) with electric AC-motor drive incl. variable frequency inverter. A flow system with regulating valves, flow meters and pressure gauges. The auxiliary units are mounted on top of the centrifuge and supported by a tripod.
Solvent Extraction is a technique of high potential value in the development of fast chemical separations. This is because of the rapidity of the actual extraction process and the high chemical selectivity offered. The slow step has been that of phase separation. The development of the H-centrifuge has changed the situation.
In the small-scale processing equipment offered by MEAB, the continuous separation of the liquid phases is accomplished by H-centrifuges. The hold-up time per stage is short, and offers the opportunity to rapidly perform efficient chemical separation procedures.
So far, the equipment has been used in the chemical separation of short-lived (down to a few seconds) radioisotopes and in small-scale production of antibiotics. The system has been operated with up to four SMCS-10 units. Necessary auxiliary equipment like pumps and flow meters are available.
