Steel Waste
Steel waste is the primary raw material in our company’s activities. It covers the largest proportion of mass in the processing of secondary raw materials. The largest part of these materials is obtained from industrial yards, i. e. the manufacturing residue, from the waste treatment centres, and from natural persons. We participate in all major campaigns for bulky waste collection and treatments in local communities. The basic sorting is made into scrap iron and sheet metal. Further on, scrap iron is sorted into the old iron and the new iron waste. The recyclable materials are sorted into several subgroups that differ in the thickness of materials, and the size or dimensions they are cut, depending on the customers’ requirements.
The feedstock is prepared according to the specifications of individual customers. There are two basic categories:
- The iron feedstock fit for processing in ironworks; it is prepared from a wide range of materials of somewhat larger dimensions
- The steel feedstock fit for processing in steelworks; it is cut to smaller dimensions and often consisting of homogeneous materials
Each customer has its own specifications, so it depends on the alloy contents added for steel finishing whether the material will meet either the ironworks’ or the steelworks’ requirements. A part of steel waste is also grey cast iron, which is used mainly in the manufacture of large machines and mechanical assemblies where larger casts are needed.
Iron shavings and turning as steel making residues shall be dried and free of emulsions that are environmentally damaging. Shavings require special processing methods since they must be stored under roof.
A part of steel waste is also stainless steel that is becoming increasingly important in today’s world because of its resistance to corrosion. In the secondary raw material market, it reaches higher prices due to the content of nickel and chromium. We collect it as:
- Old stainless steel (kitchen sinks, kitchenware)
- New manufacturing residue
- Stainless steel shavings from the steel making industry
