Sterling - Activated Filter Media (AFM)
AFM Activated Filter Media is a replacement for sand. It is made from recycled green and brown container glass. During manufacturing of AFM® the activation process increases the negative electrical surface charge of AFM, this acts like a magnet, positive and dipolar charged particles coming through the filter are attracted by the AFM® grains, thereby increasing filtration performance.
The filtration properties of AFM® therefore benefits from electrostatic filtration and is the reason why AFM® can filter to a lower level than sand.
The activated surface of AFM® is self-sterilizing which prevents bacteria mud-balling, coagulation and worm-hole channelling of unfiltered water through the filter bed. Activation increases the surface area 300 times. Similar to activated carbon, the surface nano-structure adsorbs pollutants from the water to produce crystal clear sparking water with no chlorine smell.
The benefits of AFM® reduces the biological risk from bacteria and parasites as well as the chemical risk from water and air just above the surface.
AFM® minimises the formation of harmful disinfection by-products (DBP’s) such as Trichloramines and THM’s and will save operating costs, the result is a safer pool for children, a healthier work place for staff.
in public pools and a greatly improved swimming experience for everyone. AFM® is successfully working in over 100‘000 private and public swimming pools worldwide.
