In order to retain certain liquids (such as fats, oils and petrol) and solids (such as starch, sludge and sand) that are not allowed to enter the sewer system, separators must be installed. Depending on the type, a distinction is made between grease separators, starch separators, coalescence separators, petrol separators, fuel oil barriers and sludge and grit traps.
