Teijin Tenax - ThermoPlastic UniDirectional (TPUD) Tape for High-Strength Applications
Tenax™ ThermoPlastic UniDirectional (TPUD) Tape is a highly specialized prepreg combining robust carbon fiber with customized sizing tailored for thermoplastic applications, incorporating high-temperature polymers like PEEK, PPS, and low-melt PAEK. It is readily available in standard widths and supports slitting down to narrower widths as needed. Engineered for versatile application, it can be applied manually or through automated processes such as tape laying and fiber placement. The material can be consolidated under various conditions, including static or semi-continuous presses, or vacuum ovens, making it suitable for manufacturing tubular parts via winding processes. Notably, the Tenax™-E TPUD PEEK-HTS45 variant is proven non-cytotoxic under DIN EN ISO 10993-5, indicating its safe use in medical devices within specified exposure limits. Not only does this offer solutions for industrial and automotive applications, but it also extends to aerospace and oil and gas sectors, accentuating its versatility and compliance with strict safety standards.
Tenax™ ThermoPlastic UniDirectional (TPUD) is a prepreg that combines carbon fiber with a tailored sizing for thermoplastic applications and a high-temperature polymer, such as for PEEK, PPS, LM PAEK. It is available in standard widths (304.8 mm and 609.6 mm) and with slitting on demand (down to 3.175 mm). Tenax™ TPUD is offered in different fiber grades, such as HTS and IMS.
Tenax™ ThermoPlastic UniDirectional for production processes
The material can be laid by hand or placed automatically (automated tape laying or automated fiber placement). It can be consolidated in a press (static or semi-continuous) or in an oven under vacuum conditions. It enables tubular parts to be manufactured in one step using a winding process.
