Turbidity Barriers

SHARE

Turbidity Barriers, also known as turbidity curtains, silt barriers, and silt curtains in the industry are designed specifically to contain and control the dispersion of floating turbidity and silt in a water body related to marine construction, pile driving, site work (stormwater sheetflow) and dredging activities. Turbidity or suspended solids in water have far reaching effects on our favorite fishing hole, diving reef or swimming area. Silt curtains or silt protectors minimize these impacts by improving settling times and settling suspended solids in a defined area well away from natural resources.

The negative impact of this turbidity or suspended solids in water has far reaching effects on your favorite fishing hole, diving reef or swimming area, and a Silt Curtain or Silt Protector minimize these impacts by improving settling times and settling suspended solids in a defined area well away from natural resources.

Our Turbidity Barriers are designed to effectively work in locations such as swales and ditches,(Staked Silt Barrier) disturbed soil on construction sites where site work and clearing is occurring and small ponds, canals (Type 1 Silt Barrier Economy) or (Type 1 Silt Barrier DOT), rivers & great lakes (Type 2 Silt Barrier) and bays where waves and current may be an issue (Type 3 Silt Barrier).

The Type 1 Silt and Turbidity Curtains are designed specifically for silt and turbidity control in calm waters such as swales, canals, small ponds, lakes and harbors. Available in both an Economy and DOT model, these floating barriers have several options for meeting or exceeding state DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements.

Silt barriers are built in sections that are either 50 or 100 feet in length and can built in depths to meet the specifications for your location.

Type II Silt & Turbidity Curtains are specifically designed for in-water control of silt and turbidityin moving water locations, such as around dredging activities, pile driving, rip-rap installation, demolition work, and more.

The robust and reliable design of the turbidity curtain makes them a contractor project favorite for moving water conditions up to 1.5 knots and wave swells up to 36 inches. Floating curtains are available in both a DOT and Heavy Duty model depending on site conditions.

Type III Silt and Turbidity Curtains are a robust floating barrier designed specifically for moving water conditions. Often used in demanding water conditions, such as rivers, inter-coastal waterways, bays, harbors and long-term projects, these silt curtains are the perfect way to keep turbidity and silt contained in tough areas.

The Type 3 turbidity curtain is equipped for use in conditions where there are rough waves, fast moving waters or increased tidal conditions. Use with these barriers may includes silt control during dredging activities, demolition projects and high flow construction
