Ultrafiltration is a membrane process that is most commonly used to remove suspended or dissolved solids from a process liquid. The membranes are selected to remove impurities based on their molecular weight. The process uses hollow fibers of membrane material. The feed can flow either inside the shell, or in the lumen of the fibers.

Industrial Applications
Ultrafiltration is used in industry to separate suspended solids from solution. The particles that are removed vary in size, and their removal is a function of the pore size.
Ultrafiltration is used in:
- Paint recovery in the automotive industry
- Protein isolation
- Removal of colloids
UF Industries
It used in many industrial applications, including the power, food, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and semiconductor industries.
