ZEBCARE - Zebrafish Husbandry System
Zebcare has developed a specialized standalone zebrafish husbandry system designed to cater to the housing needs of zebrafish research lines. Based on over three decades of experience, this system provides optimal conditions for maintaining zebrafish genetic lines with stable water quality and ensures high animal welfare standards. The system incorporates a coated stainless steel rack with optional glass aquaria or polycarbonate fish tanks. A sophisticated filtration unit beneath the tanks includes biological and mechanical compartments, alongside UV disinfection, to maintain high water clarity and health standards. It has a compact footprint of 1.5 x 0.7 meters and stands 2.5 meters tall. Optional features can include a controllable LED lighting system, tap water filtration, or a salt- and acid dosing setup. For larger facilities, multiple racks can be connected to a centralized filtration and monitoring system. This makes it a suitable choice for many European zebrafish facilities.

Standalone zebrafish husbandry system
The zebrafish (Danio rerio) has become more and more important to scientific research. Based on our extensive 30+ years of experience, ZEBCARE has developed a standard standalone RAS zebrafish husbandry system. This zebrafish husbandry system is an affordable solution for housing your zebrafish genetic lines. This husbandry system provide stable water quality and optimal animal welfare, is user-friendly, easy to maintain and assure low running costs.
Specifications of the system
The standard zebrafish husbandry rack is a standalone system consisting of a coated stainless steel rack, equipped with glass aquaria or shelves with polycarbonate fish tanks. Under the fish tanks there is a filtration unit. This unit exists out of biological- and mechanical filtration compartments, sump and UV disinfection. This system has only a footprint of 1.5 x 0.7 meter and a height of 2.5 meter. Upon request, the standalone husbandry rack can be provided with optional features.

Glass aquaria
In many European zebrafish facilities, ZEBCARE has incorporated glass serial tanks for husbandry of large groups of zebrafish (70-80 adults). A standard standalone aquarium rack can be equipped with four layers of standard serial aquaria. A standard serial aquaria consists of 12 compartments (approx. capacity of 10 litre per compartment). Zebrafish can easily be removed from these serial tanks using ZEBCARE’s perfectly fitting net for serial aquaria. Besides standard serial aquaria, we can also delivers customized aquaria upon request.
Shelves with polycarbonate tanks
A standard standalone shelf rack consists of six layered shelves where the transparent polycarbonate tanks are placed. The tanks can be quickly taken from the system for handling or placed on any location on the shelf. ZEBCARE offers a range of polycarbonate tanks with a capacity of 3 to 10 litre, including special designed breeding tanks.
Large zebrafish husbandry systems
For larger research facilities it is also possible to link up to five standard ZEBCARE zebrafish husbandry racks to a central filtration system. A self-cleaning drumfilter for mechanical filtration of the system water, biological filtration using a moving bed filter and a degassing tower. A monitoring and control system are also included.
