Aquifer Analysis Services
Aquifer analysis and groundwater modeling are key areas of CRB`s expertise. Our team has extensive experience in determining aquifer characteristics for drainage and remedial designs. This experience gives us the ability to incorporate site-specific geologic variables into the design of remediation systems. We are equipped to mobilize nationwide to perform aquifer testing and analyze data to prepare expert reports for groundwater flow and transport models.Groundwater Modeling
CRB offers services in groundwater hydrogeology, ranging from simple analytical solutions to applications of sophisticated numerical models. These methods have been applied to projects ranging from local environmental impact studies to large-scale remedial investigations and feasibility studies at underground tank sites, dry cleaners, and CERCLA sites.
The CRB hydrogeology team has demonstrated expertise in many areas, including:
Groundwater Engineering
CRB provides state-of-the-art groundwater engineering and flow analysis capabilities for:
- Land use impacts on groundwater resources
- Dewatering design for mining and construction
- Surface water interaction
- Groundwater flow and storage models
- Remedial system design
- Wellfield protection - cone of influence assessments
Vadose Zone Analysis
Vadose zone studies consider movement through unsaturated soil near underground storage tanks, landfills, septic tanks, agriculture, mine spoils, and road de-icing salts. CRB is experienced with many techniques for analyzing these situations, including:
- Analytical models of water infiltration and adsorption
- Analytical and numerical models of subsurface vapor transport
- Models for solute transport
Aquifer Analysis
Typical methods of approaching and obtaining solutions to groundwater problems include:
- Aquifer pumping tests
- Numerical models of water and solute transport
- Flow net and recharge analysis
- Steady state and/or transient three-dimensional finite-element groundwater models
- Phreatic-surface seepage models
- Single-cell lumped parameter or multiple-cell groundwater quality models
- Analytical solutions to the convective-dispersion equation for contaminant plumes
- Advection/time of travel studies using flow nets
- Particle tracking models and random-walk solute transport models
- Three-dimensional sharp interface flow models for simulation of non-aqueous liquids
Groundwater Resource Management
Groundwater management plans are becoming increasingly important. Recent studies performed by CRB personnel have focused on groundwater management and control issues in several different geographic areas. Some of the analytical tools and methodologies employed are:
- Analysis of legal aspects of groundwater management
- Groundwater and surface water supply models
- River basin simulation modeling
- Observation well network design
