What is Asbestos?
Asbestos, a naturally occurring material, is comprised of six fibrous minerals. The most common asbestos minerals used in building materials are chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite.

Any material containing over one percent of any type of asbestos is considered by the USEPA and OSHA to be an Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).  ACMs become hazardous when disturbed or damaged, which causes fibers that can present a serious health risk to be released into the air.  ACM is typically found in the following materials:

  • Floor tiles and floor coverings
  • Cement pipe and siding panels
  • Pipe wrap and Thermal System Insulation
  • Duct covering and miscellaneous mastic materials

The Asbestos Survey
CRB`s asbestos survey is consistent with procedures outlined in Title 40, Code of Federal regulations Part 763.86.  The asbestos survey includes:

  • Identification and random sampling of each suspect ACM for laboratory analysis.
  • Preparation of a survey report, signed by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant, that includes a description of any ACM and recommendations.

Abatement and Maintenance
If asbestos is present, CRB can prepare a cost-effective response plan including:

  • Prior to any renovation or demolition involving ACM greater than 260 linear feet or 160 square feet, all effected ACM must be removed.
  • If ACM is abated or removed, CRB contracts and supervises abatement activities, and performs final air clearance analysis.
  • If ACM is left in place, CRB develops Operations & Maintenance Plans to minimize the release of asbestos fibers into the air and to protect worker health.
