Bio-Based Platform Chemicals
From Bioeconomy
Everyone knows that bio-based platform chemicals are a wise environmental choice. Did you know that they also deliver exceptional high performance polymers? VTT combines five distinct disciplines, including biotechnology and green process chemistry, to push the bounds of bio-based monomer development.
Bio-based research focused on PET alternatives
Bio-based research focused on PET alternatives
VTT's advanced bio-based monomer research and development is focused on bio alternatives for polyesters and polyolefins such as PET replacement. We use many distinct scientific methods to develop newand cost-effective production methods for high quality monomer.
Bio-based monomers: the future is clear
In the near future, bio-based materials will be standard components of packaging and consumer products. Monomer production from non-food and waste streams or directly from syngas, CO2 or methane (C1 resources) is very likely to spread.
Focusing 5 scientific disciplines for superior solutions
VTT employs a broad range of disciplines to push bio-based monomer development. These include:
- Industrial biotechnology
- Metabolic engineering
- Green process chemistry
- Thermochemical conversion
- Gasification
Together, these techniques open new avenues for the efficient production of monomers for high performance polymers. At VTT, we apply them all!
An outstanding PGA… and more to come!
Today, VTT pursues both biotechnical and thermochemical routes to monomer and polymer precursor production. To date, we have developed a flagship bio-based glycolic acid-derived PGA material with outstanding oxygen barrier properties. We look forward to refining this PGA together with our clients.
