Climbex - Catalyst Handling and Adsorber Services
We provide catalytic reactor and adsorber services for the chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as in oil and natural gas processing. In these industries, catalysts are widely used in manufacturing processes and the level of activity of a well-chosen catalyst has a key impact on the quality and properties of the end product. When a catalytic material shows a decrease in activity, it is a sign that it needs to be replaced.
Climbex performs a full range of catalytic reactor and adsorber works:
- Bed removal and charging
- Bed segregation and screening
- Preparation of reactors for inspections by the Technical Inspection Authority and for pressure testing
- Maintenance and repair of reactors
- Transportation and disposal of the spent bed
- Specialist works in a nitrogen atmosphere
Our clients can rely on us starting from the system preparation phase – we plan the order carefully, which guarantees safe performance of works. In consultation with the client, we arrange storage areas, take over the supply of catalysts, ensure weather protection and coordinate erection of scaffolding. All works inside the reactor are performed by certified specialists who are authorised to work in an anaerobic environment and who are very knowledgeable about the bed replacement methods and techniques.
Working in a nitrogen atmosphere
Work in catalytic reactors is usually performed in a nitrogen atmosphere. The reactor is cooled with liquid nitrogen and the process is constantly monitored. The neutralisation of the working environment in the reactor prevents self-ignition or other dangerous chemical reactions. The nitrogen atmosphere ensures safety of the system, high quality of services, as well as smooth work and safety of the technical team performing the works.
When working in reactors, technicians wear special helmets which are part of the integrated Life Support System (LSS) device. The device allows for work in anaerobic conditions and is monitored by technicians outside the reactor. The system supplies air to people working in the reactor and allows for team communication.
Maintenance and repair of reactors
Once the catalytic beds are removed, the reactor is cleaned from the inside and the internal coatings are neutralised. The neutralisation process is essential for the correct course of many chemical reactions in the reactor and supports the efficient operation of the new catalyst. Repair, component maintenance or corrosion protection operations are also carried out when replacing the bed.
