Contaminated Sites Services
The problem of contaminated sites is at the top of the list of priorities of environmental and reclamation programmes both in Italy and in most European countries. Contaminated sites are all those areas where pollution caused by on-going or past human activity has altered the natural characteristics of the land to such an extent as to be hazardous for public health or the environment. This definition comprises chemical-physical or biological contamination or alteration of the subsoil, surface and ground waters, especially at active or decommissioned industrial sites and also those affected by not environmentally correct waste disposal.

Management of a contaminated site implies, in particular, the ability to evaluate different environmental scenarios, to assess the effective degree of pollution, its extension and nature in order to undertake all the actions necessary to restore eco-environmental equilibrium.
This requires instruments and methods for precise identification of the risks of contaminated sites, such as those made available to customers by EDF Fenice’s Environmental Services Centre, together with a complete package of preparatory services for each of the three design phases (established by Decree Law No. 152/06) of an environmental reclamation project:
- Drafting of a characterisation plan
- Drawing up of the reclamation project
- Reclamation applying appropriate remediation technologies
