Continuous Flow Measurement
HLS staff have a particular specialism in the feasibility, design, installation and operation of continuous flow monitoring sites. We have supported our clients in obtaining cost effective, accurate and reliable continuous flow data in a wide range of situations both in the UK and overseas.
In doing this we have used a wide range of techniques, including:
- Rated sections and stage discharge relationship
- Bed and side mounted ADCP and echo-correlation devices
- Transit-time ultrasonic systems
- Adaptation of non-standard structures
- Hydrometric structures e.g. weirs, flumes (to BS/EN/ISO Standards)
- High flow rating extension using 1D/2D modelling techniques.
The selection of the most appropriate monitoring location and technique can pose a significant challenge. It requires a detailed assessment of site specific conditions and consideration of additional factors such as budgetary constraints, environmental considerations, operational capacity/capability. Our staff are experienced in weighing up the various factors in order to bring forward monitoring proposals that best meet clients` needs.
