Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are non-coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides. Most of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are poorly annotated. Recent recognition about lncRNAs high lights their effects in many biological and pathological processes. The recent research shown that they have several functions involved in many cellular mechanisms, including signaling pathways regulation, activation and repression of transcription, chromatin structure regulation and post transcriptomic regulation. The dysfunction of LncRNAs is associated with a variety of human diseases varying from cancerous to non-cancerous diseases. Thus, characterization of these lncRNA genes and their modes of action may allow their use for diagnosis, monitoring of progression and targeted therapies in various diseases.
