Dams & Reservoirs
Ranked consistently among the nation’s top four dam construction contractors in the U.S., we specialize in challenging dam and reservoir projects. Within the last 10 years, our work has included construction of the Saluda Backup Dam in South Carolina, which was the largest ongoing dam construction project in the country for three years running. The project won three prestigious industry awards. In Florida, we completed three contracts for the South Florida Water Management District as part of a broad-based effort to restore the Everglades. We also successfully constructed a second above-ground reservoir for the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority.
In Oregon, we completed an emergency dam repair in record time and under budget, for which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognized Barnard with its 2006 Northwestern Region Contractor of the Year award. And, in Nevada, we reconstructed an earthen dam for the Walker River Paiute Tribe and the Bureau of Reclamation. We prepped the San Vicente Dam so it could be raised 117 feet and we filled in Future Unit Intakes at the Wanapum Dam on the Columbia River by designing and installing more than 550 stop logs. And we recently raised the Los Vaqueros Dam in Northern California by 34 feet.
Today, we are strengthening the Gilboa Dam in New York, rehabilitating two powerhouses at the scenic Snoqualmie Falls, decommissioning the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams in Washington, and adding 83 feet in height to a concrete arch dam in Sitka, Alaska. These projects, and many more that we have performed in the dam, reservoir and hydro power field, have required our work in:
- New dam construction
- Seismic rehabilitation
- Existing dam rehabilitation
- Emergency dam repair
- Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) placement
- Earthen dam construction
- Slurry wall construction
- Geomembrane installation
- Conventional concrete construction
- Dike construction and repair
