The drainages are generally defined as a temporary or permanent lowering of the level of the water into soils.
On the basis of a lithological classification are:
- Drainage in Rock;
- Drainage in Soft Soil.
While the first use sophisticated and complex techniques to remove the water and their potential risk in the large engineering works and the exploitation of mineral deposits, the second most common techniques used with multiple objectives.
The drainage in the soils can be divided in:
Geotechnical drainage. Influence on groundwater to increase the strength of soils (consolidation) and stability (landslides, mudslides, etc.);
Agricultural drainage. Influence on groundwater to reclaim land and make them suitable for agriculture;
Drain standing. Collection of water by gravity drainage with special reticles below artefacts and works road;
Drainage relief. Temporary influence on groundwater for the construction of artefacts and works of engineering that require excavation below the level of surface groundwater
