Dust and Water Analysis Service
As part of personnel dust monitoring, CEL provides accurate measurement of inhalable dust from filter papers using a micro balance with a readability of 0.001mg. This will be an important tool to assess work exposure to dust and will be critical with the changing HSE regulations regarding acceptable levels of dust exposure.
A range of water analysis can be undertaken and tailor made for the specific needs and information required by the client. The analyses include: pH, Redox, Conductivity, salinity, anion and cations analyses, total elemental concentrations, Biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, amongst others.
We can offer comprehensive surveys and advice if your development is likely to impact upon great crested newt and their habitat. Our aim is to ensure you can proceed with your development project as quickly as possible. However surveys must take place between mid-March to mid-June during peak breeding season. It’s important to contact us in plenty of time to arrange a survey within this time window.
We can provide:
- Habitat Suitability Index Assessments (HSI) to calculate the likelihood of a pond/waterbody supporting Great Crested Newts based on approved criteria.
- Presence/Absence Survey: Following standard survey methodology within the specific survey season. A total of 4 survey visits using 3 survey techniques are used, but fully licensed experienced surveyors.
- Population Estimate Survey: If Great Crested Newt are found to be present, 6 survey visits are completed to assess the population size within the local area.
- Great Crested Newt /European Protected Species (EPS) mitigation licenses: Our staff have years of experience of submission and design of Great Crested Newt EPS licence application for a wide range and size of project. We design full translocation and mitigation strategies, and monitoring. We endeavour to make this process as efficient as possible working closely with the client through the application process and site works.
Environmental DNA (eDNA)
With Natural England accepting the method of Environmental DNA ( eDNA) analysis of water samples to determine the presence or absence of Great Crested Newts within a water body in 2014; Crestwood are now pleased to be able to offer this service to efficiently determine their presence or absence. Environmental DNA analysis has several benefits in comparison to conventional surveys:
