Engineering and Environmental Research (EER)
Engineering and environmental research (EER) is one of the types of engineering research activities. EER is done to obtain present-day assessment and to forecast the probable changes in natural settings as a result of planned project. The results of EER are to help the management to eliminate and mitigate negative environmental, social, economic and other impacts. EER is a part and parcel of environmental impact assessment procedure.
Engineering research is done into the following works:
- natural settings;
- man-made impacts on environment;
- data for territorial planning; design, construction, reconstruction of various objects;
- library documentation and engineering & information systems’ data to support urban planning activities.
Engineering environmental research is done by SHANECO Research center. The main concern of the research is to collect, review, make analysis and report to a client the data on natural and man-made specifics of the territory where the planned project is to be implemented. The information allows the management team to develop environmentally supported project solutions.
Generally, the following topics are to be reviewed during EER:
- collection, review and analysis of library documentation and literature on natural settings;
- collection, review and analysis of data on remote sensing;
- field studies to do research into natural components (air, geology, surface and subsurface waters, soils, flora and fauna);
- chemical analysis and other laboratory testing;
- social and economic studies;
- sanitary and epidemiological studies;
Specific topics for EER are identified by natural and natural & man-made specifics of a territory, the type of activities to be implemented and depend on the phase of project works. As a rule, the scope and composition of the research is outlined by the program of works.
