Almost every job in construction today includes an environmental aspect, whether that means tapping into renewable energy, protecting the environment or species that reside there, restoring a damaged environment, or enhancing the current environment. Our future also lies in pursuing development of different forms of energy. Barnard’s diverse staff lends experience to each of these facets of construction.

Protecting the Environment
Barnard has a 30-year history of working well with environmental agencies and groups, ensuring that the projects we construct also protect the environment in which they’re located. From wetlands matting to preserving  the protected snowy plover, we’ve worked closely with owners, agencies, and the public to meet everyone’s needs.

Restoring/Enhancing the Environment
One example of our efforts in this area has been our construction of seven complex projects (totaling roughly $400 million) in the Owens Lake region in south central California designed to mitigate dust pollution arising from the dry lakebed.

The project scopes of some of our environmentally related projects encompass things that have never been attempted before.  For example, the Round Butte Dam Selective Water Withdrawal Project is one of a kind – a floating fish transfer facility that also changes the currents in a reservoir above a dam and favorably alters water temperature below the dam.

The Elwha and Glines Canyon Dam Removal Project, located on the edge of Olympic National Park, is a unique undertaking in removing two dams to restore valuable salmon and other anadromous fish habitat.
