Biomatix - In-Situ Bioremediation of Drains Services
Most cities have not grown in a planned way like Chandigarh or Mohali resulting in multiple issues. One of the common issue that plagues all cities is proper treatment of raw sewage water. This leads to pollution of groundwater aquifers, water bodies like lakes and rivers and also becomes the cause of vector born diseases.
Though multiple STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) have been set up by Municipal Corporations they have still not addressed the problem fully. Many STPs do not function properly owing to design or maintenance issues and in many places STPs cannot be set up owing to cost, logistics or cultural issues. Thus, pollution goes on unabated, albeit to a lesser degree.
In-situ bio-remediation is rapidly growing as a solution to reduce the pollution load in a flowing drain. Linking treated sewage for use in non-potable areas like watering parks, road dividers, car wash, replenishing lakes and ponds is vital for conserving our most precious resource.
With the help of Biomimicry , we thought of a novel way to treat wastewater while it is flowing in the drains itself, otherwise called in-situ bio-remediation. Our novel technology mimics the self-cleansing process of rivers through multiple ways. This method will help in the following ways:
Through our approach, the costs become much less as compared to a conventional treatment both in terms of Capex and Opex costs. There is no need for costly steel, motors, electrical fittings etc.
There are no infrastructure changes as such in the drains. They do not need to be broken down or changed in any manner.
We do not use any chemicals or energy to carry out treatment. Our approach is natural and thus we only use natural or local materials to carry out the treatment.
As compared to conventional treatment, there are no frequent breakdowns that lead to costly repairs and the minimal maintenance can be managed by local people with no engineering background.
The foul odour to a large extent is suppressed and the population of flies and mosquitoes too are controlled leading to suppression of diseases amongst the people.
This solution was conceived while mimicking the self-cleansing process of rivers. and streams. It is perceived that with this method the benefits as cited above can be delivered across all drains. Various technologies work in tandem to bring results under our solution. These are briefed as follows:
