  • UK`s BRE Environmental Assessment Method, known as BREEAM, was launched in 1990 as the first environmentally aware system for the assessment of buildings. Several assessment systems are built on the foundations of BREEAM but up until 2008, when it got widespread internationally, assessment criteria had only been available for the United Kingdom. BREEAM International Europe systems were launched in 2008 to enable the international assessment of office buildings, industrial and commercial buildings. Using BREEAM`s International Europe assessment scheme is the simplest of the systems of assessment for buildings in Hungary as it is based on EU and national standards which are known and used in many respect. When developing buildings, BREEAM International`s assessment should possibly implemented as early as in the conceptual design phase in order to attain the desired objectives.
