Oil Sands
Alberta oil sands are a vast underdeveloped resource both for Canada and North America, containing an estimated 1.6 trillion barrels of bitumen. Our oil sands deposits are located in three main areas of the Province - Athabasca, Cold Lake and Peace River. For the period 1996 - 2016, an unprecedented amount of investment has occurred or been announced by oil sands developers; confirming oil sands as a major contributor of wealth to Alberta and Canada now and into the future.

Once the petroleum is recovered from the oil sands, a sand waste by-product is generated. This sand waste still contains high concentrations of oil that were not removed during the initial oil extraction process. Ivey-sol has proven to be very effective in the removal of the residual oils from the sand wastes. The effectiveness has generated the possibility of using Ivey-sol a secondary oil-recovery method in conjunction with current oil sands production methods to increase the net oil recovered per cubic meter by as much as 15-25%.
