Optical Materials & Spectroscopy Research Services
The optical properties of solar cells and solar modules, in particular the materials used for the body of the solar module, are of significant importance for their efficiency. The optical interaction of the cover glass, the anti-reflective coating, the TCO layer as well as the encapsulation materials determines primarily the part of the sunlight which reaches the photovoltaic active material. Most popular related searches
There are various spectroscopic and imaging methods available for optical characterization of solar cells and solar modules: transmission, reflection, scattering, ellipsometry, electro- and photoluminescence, Fourier transform infrared as well as Raman spectroscopy.
Another research focus is in the efficiency enhancement of solar cells and solar modules using concepts of light and photon management. For this, the incident sunlight is modified by optical materials to convert the solar spectrum to the useable spectral range of the solar cell. An enhancement of the solar module efficiency is thus possible without modifying the solar cell itself.
