Envirolink Northwest`s Recycling and Waste project recognised that the changes in the waste sector offered substantial routes to business growth for companies in the North West. The opportunities throughout the supply chain extended from pure research through technology optimisation, to full commercial exploitation, both within the region and beyond. The Recycling and Waste project had four main elements:

• Research and Development - Facilitating co-operative research and development work in industry and academia
• Technology Commercialisation - Demonstrating capabilities of new technologies
• Sector Development - Supporting the North West region to become the premier business hub for waste related operations, throughout the UK and worldwide
• Market Development - Ensuring that high-value and practical uses are developed for materials produced by waste treatment and recycling.
