Response Expertise: We have a diverse portfolio of people who have the practical skills and experience to assist and support our Members during a spill response and are trained in using the Incident Command System (ICS) structure. Since 2011, we have been using ICS as our primary management tool at our bases and in-field to facilitate a response that effectively meets our Members’ needs.

We have also been able to integrate with different types of response management systems as required by our Members. This ICS diagram demonstrates how our expertise can be utilised in all aspects of an oil spill response from incident management and command to in-field activities.

Response operations invariably raise a number of safety concerns that must be considered. Our comprehensive safety procedures consistently ensure that we work in the safest way possible at our regional bases and on the spill site

Incident Management
Our response personnel are trained in ICS as we recognise that a successful response relies on a clear organisational structure supported by competent personnel. We provide expertise to support and supplement our Members’ existing command structure and work alongside Responsible Parties (RP) at Command Staff and Section Chief levels to provide expert guidance in managing an incident.

Technical Advisor
Sound technical decision making is critical in the early stages of an incident. Members can request one of our Technical Advisors on-site at no cost for the critical first 48 hours of a spill or potential incident to facilitate those difficult and influential early decisions. As the spill incident progresses, our Technical Advisor will act as the in-field command for our operations.

Specialist Expertise
Our response personnel can assist in a range of response operations. This includes scientific support staff to assist in dispersant monitoring operations, dispersant spray experts for the management and operation of aerial and vessel dispersant application, scientists with specialist environmental skills for assessing cleanup techniques, spill impacts and experts in shoreline /offshore recovery operations.
