Specialty Waste Transportation Services
Sterner Consulting has extensive experience in transporting all forms and types of waste and cargo materials including nuclear, hazardous, municipal solid waste, and all forms of residual and C&D wastes.Sterner’s Consulting team is active in Waste by Rail projects and we have worked as developers, operators, managers and brokers for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Construction and demolition (C&D) materials, low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) , and most other forms of waste materials over the past 30 years. We have helped move millions of tons of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials using truck, rail, and marine transport modes. Our specialty is developing rail shipment options for hazardous waste transportation and disposal. We have been involved with waste-by-rail projects since 1988, including the development of intermodal transfer stations for hazardous waste, solid waste, and incineration waste.
As a result of our extensive work developing waste-by-rail options, we have developed effective working relationships with the Class I railroads, and we are very familiar with their infrastructure and tariffs. We have worked with many of the short and terminal line railroads across the US and Canada on waste projects and facilities, and have enabled them to increase their market share in movement of hazardous, toxic, and radioactive wastes.
We are also well-versed in waste regulations, ensuring that all hazardous waste is packaged, transported, and disposed of correctly. This expertise extends across all modes of transit, and among different waste types as well.
Our clients include several of the world’s largest shipping and transport companies and most of the operating waste management companies moving waste materials long distances in North America today.
Our expertise includes transfer station facility design and site logistics, development of project and route pricing, life cycle cost comparison models, as well as budget models and project cost analysis. We will also set up and implement railcar service tracking and reporting methodology for our clients and for waste generators of all sizes and types.
Perhaps most importantly, we can help our clients benefit from the lower costs of rail transportation even if their facilities are not directly rail served, by establishing intermodal transfer stations to compliantly move the waste from truck to rail using many combinations of specialty rail equipment and facilities.
