Training & Research Services
Our training is designed for non-specialist ecologists working in a range of positions, including commercial consultants, conservation officers, planning officers and local authority workers. But we also cater for those who have yet to break into this employment sector. We offer a selection of intensive one day training courses in ecology led by experienced professional consultants who are experts in their field. Examples of our courses include:
- Wildlife and the Law: An Introduction to UK Wildlife Legislation
- An Introduction to Badger Ecology and Mangement
- Phase One Habitat Survey: The Basics and Beyond
- The identification of Common Grassland Plants
We also provide bespoke training in ecological issues that relate directly to the needs of your business. Typical subject areas we can cover include:
- UK wildlife and habitats legislation
- Managing protected species
- Development of Biodiversity action plans
- Recognising and managing ecological issues for developers
- Biodiversity risks and opportunities for business
We can tailor the content of our courses to your needs, whatever your business. For example, we developed a bespoke one day course for United Utilities to provide their staff with a refresher course on their legal responsibilities regarding wildlife and habitats.
We ensure the atmosphere is relaxed and interactive on our courses, where discussion between trainees and tutors is actively encouraged. Our bespoke courses can be delivered at your workplace or at our training facilities in Bath. We can accommodate a variety of group sizes, provide catering and training materials.
As ecologists we’re interested in the changing landscape of scientific research; as business people we know it is essential to stay on top of legislative changes and to be at the forefront of discussions concerning changes to ecological practice.
We are industry leaders in terms of our pedigree in research at both a national and international level. All our scientific directors have been published in peer reviewed journals*. Research is important to us because it ultimately leads to changes in practice and we want to help mould and shape those changes to ensure that they are practical and can be implemented in tandem with the needs and requirements of the business community.
We are focused on continuous learning in terms of the management practices we recommend. As scientists and academics we are always asking questions, not only about the effectiveness of the things we do but we also constantly examine new and established ideas and theories to assess their value in real world situations.
