Troubleshooting Services
Look here for solutions to common problems: Motor won’t start? Bales are loose when compacted? Listed are some common troubleshooting guidelines. Keep in mind that these are only guidelines and that troubleshooting should be performed by qualified maintenance technicians only.
Common Troubleshooting Problems
Motor fails to start
Possible cause:
No power to the baler.
Solution:
Check main power supply or fuses.
Possible cause:
Key Switch is in the “OFF” position.
Solution:
Turn key to “HAND” or “AUTO” position.
Possible cause:
Transformer fuse is blown or burnt.
Solution:
Check for short circuit. Replace blown fuse.
Possible cause:
Motor overload tripped.
Solution:
Check motor overload dial setting. Push in reset button.
Possible cause:
Very low voltage or incorrect supplied voltage.
Solution:
Check motor nameplate (Motor Wiring vs. Line Voltage.)
Possible cause:
Bad safety gate/door switch or safety gate/door switch is not adjusted properly.
Solution:
Check switch adjustment and replace switch if bad.
Motor starts, but platen fails to move
Possible cause:
Motor is rotating in the wrong direction.
Solution:
Check the motor rotation arrow. Reverse rotation if necessary.
Possible cause:
Low or no hydraulic system pressure.
Solution:
Check oil level and main relief valve setting.
Possible cause:
Dirt or obstruction in hydraulic system and/or hydraulic oil.
Solution:
Clean hydraulic system. Install new hydraulic oil.
Possible cause:
No power to directional valve coils.
Solution:
Check for 120 volt AC at the terminal blocks.
Possible cause:
Directional valve coil bad.
Solution:
Replace the complete directional valve.
Possible cause:
Bad safety gate/door switch or safety gate/door switch is not adjusted properly. (LS2)
Solution:
Check switch adjustment and replace switch if bad. (LS2)
Power unit keeps running in the fully retracted position.
Possible cause:
Retract limit switch bad or out of adjustment. (LS1)
Solution:
Replace or re-adjust limit switch. (LS1)
Bales are loose when compacted.
Possible cause:
Low or no hydraulic system pressure.
Solution:
Check oil level and main relief valve setting.
Platen moves very slowly.
Possible cause:
Bad or internally leaking hydraulic pump.
Solution:
Test pump and replace if needed.
Platen drifts down with power.
Possible cause:
Bad or internally leaking hydraulic cylinder.
Solution:
Test cylinder and replace if needed.
Platen chatter and shake when moving up or down.
Possible cause:
Dirt or debris is built up on the platen wear pads.
Solution:
Remove the debris and was the wall wear pad area of contact.
