Inspection staff is highly trained to verify pipe size, type, class, thickness, and that elevations and locations meet the requirements set forth in the plans, and verify use of approved seal, rubber gaskets and preformed rubber mastic.
Construction material verification
- All piping, gasketed joints, mechanical end joints, valves, manholes, fire hydrants, bells, spigots and other materials shall be observed to check compliance with design specifications
Observe construction techniques
- Observe depth of trench and elevation of piping; contractor is required to provide site survey services
- Observe and verify proper bedding materials, placement and coverage over piping
- Document minimum vertical and horizontal clearance between all conduits
- Observe placement of thrust blocks on water lines for all bends, tees, fire hydrants and plugs at dead end mains
- Observe adjustment of manholes, inlets, fire hydrants, valve boxes and associated structures to finish grade
- Observe conduit testing by the contractor which may include flushing, leak testing and disinfecting
- Observe and log horizontal distances; contractor is required to provide site survey services
- Observe proper installation of tracer wire or other required markers
Observe trench backfill materials and backfill compaction techniques
- Observe contractor`s trench construction
- Observe top and bottom cover
Daily activity reports are generated documenting location of pipe placed, quantity of pipe placed and whether or not it is in compliance with plans and specifications
Minimum vertical and horizontal clearance between all new and existing conduits are documented as part of our inspections
Review as-built drawings, prepared by contractor, to verify actual construction
Observations will be documented in daily reports by our inspectors
