Water Production

SHARE

Water production involves the abstraction, treatment and transmission of water sufficient for human consumption. Why is it necessary for water to be treated before it is supplied for public use? This is because in its raw form, water often contains impurities such as decaying organic matter, soil particles and dissolved chemicals from sources like fertilizers and industrial residues. These substances always give water unpleasant colour, taste, smell and may in certain cases be toxic. More importantly, surface water often carries micro – organisms that cause harmfull diseases like cholera, typhoid and dysentery as well as other disease transmitting factors.
