Wetlands
Wetlands are the link between the land and the water. They are transition zones where the flow of water, the cycling of nutrients, and the energy of the sun meet to produce a unique ecosystem characterized by hydrology, soils, and vegetation. By definition, wetlands are those areas that are inundated or saturated by surface or groundwater at a frequency and duration sufficient to support, and that under normal circumstances do support, a prevalence of vegetation typically adapted for life in saturated soil conditions (United States Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Register 1982; United Stated Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Register 1980).
Both Federal and State regulatory agencies have made it a priority to protect the quantity and quality of wetlands within their jurisdictions. As Aztech continually strives to protect the environment, one of the most significant elements in doing so is preserving wetlands. Through assessment, delineation and permitting, we ensure that our clients are in compliance with federal and state guidelines. Aztech’s Environmental Scientists are certified by the United States Army Corps of Engineers to conduct Wetland Assessments and make determinations for purposes of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. We have conducted Wetland Assessments and Delineations throughout New York State for commercial and residential development projects, as well as for transportation related projects including culvert and bridge replacements, roadway realignments and pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects.
In addition to Wetland Assessment and Delineation services, Aztech provides Wetland Permitting assistance for clients adhering to Section 404 Clean Water Act requirements for “waters of the United States, including wetlands”. Aztech staff have assisted clients in the completion of Joint Permit Applications and provided the necessary coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to obtain applicable permits.
