Data can be fetched in many different ways. Airviro can handle data collection via telephone modems, GSM modems, radio modems, GPRS and TCP/IP (network). The preferred way of fetching data is to have the Airviro system to actively contact a station and fetch data in order to have full control over the communication process.

Different instruments and loggers use different communication protocols. The actual communication protocol is a plug-in module that handles the data collection for each specific type of instrument or logger. Airviro has a wide range of protocols implemented (see Data Collection) and it is also possible to extend this by developing new protocols.
