Meteomatics is a leading weather service provider with offices in St. Gallen, Berlin and Exeter and our employees have strong backgrounds in physics, mathematics and computer science. Working closely with National Met Services and industry, we specialise in high-resolution commercial weather forecasting, power output forecasting for wind, solar and hydro, the gathering of weather data from the lower atmosphere using Meteodrones and the simple delivery of quality weather data via the Weather API.

To ensure the best available data for any coordinate worldwide, Meteomatics aggregates the latest weather forecast models, satellite data, rainfall radar information and station observations from a variety of sources around the planet. To further enhance this data Meteomatics also produces its own high-resolution atmospheric model at a 1km resolution across Switzerland. This ‘Swiss1K’ model is only possible due to the improved data received from the unique Meteodrone measurements within the lowest atmospheric layers.

Meteomatics cost effectively deliver these data as a single version of the truth across business units in a range of formats that can be simply consumed by existing and new systems, and our Weather API is already integrated with industry leading modelling, GIS and data analytics providers.

Comprehensive observational data
In order to provide extensive, current and historical data, Meteomatics ingests the data from thousands of weather stations worldwide, in the highest possible high temporal resolution, from a variety of national weather services. We also acquire satellite imagery, rainfall radar and lightning information and apply calibration techniques to ensure that the measured data is provided correctly for any desired coordinate. Meteomatics ‘anti-gap’ methodology is also able to provide complete time series data for a number of years.

Accurate forecast data
Meteomatics processes the model data from the leading NWP providers such as Met Office, ECMWF, NOAA (US), MeteoSwiss as well as other national weather services and satellite data providers. We then apply a variety of downscaling techniques and scientific methods which allows us to output improved forecast data for any coordinate. At the same time Meteomatics is also able to ingest and process the data of third-party providers (Telemetry, Sensor, IoT) to provide highly bespoke sector specific information quickly and easily.

Innovative data gathering
In addition to providing and developing meteorological software solutions, Meteomatics is also a trailblazer in drone enhanced weather forecasts. The in-house developed and constructed systems have been permitted to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). This positions Meteomatics as the only weather data provider able to extract data from the lower layer of atmosphere (up to 3km above ground level) in this way. This data is then used to enhance the existing NWP data and allows for the provision of more accurate local weather forecasts.
