8-Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher-Online
Compliance Solutions NEW interactive web-based, 8-Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher provides a convenient way for employees who have completed initial 24 or 40-Hour HAZWOPER training to meet OSHA mandated refresher requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120. This feature packed, interactive, online course offers 17 “HAZWOPER Specific” training modules including health and safety procedures, personnel protection during work operations at hazardous material sites and many, many others.
Employees with a 40 or 24-Hour HAZWOPER certification MUST complete annual refresher within 12-months of the date they were last trained to be compliant with OSHA regulations and maintain continued certification in HAZWOPER and Emergency Response. For employees who are fluent in the Spanish dialect, we offer a Spanish translated version of the 8-Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher.
Advanced course features include:

Employees have a full 90-days to complete the online curricula (extensions are available, just call prior to expiration) with the added benefit of being allowed to login and train at your leisure (no specific start and stop times). After completing the course, students will be sent a Certificate of Completion suitable for framing (not a black & white “downloaded copy”).
OSHA’s main objectives in requiring the 8-Hr HAZWOPER Refresher course include:
- promoting control and elimination of potential hazards or losses, and
- protecting the health and safety of workers and the public, and
- protecting the environment
At the conclusion of this course, students will:
- Understand how hazardous materials affect the human body, and how to handle and identify these materials
- Learn the purpose and value of a Health and Safety Plan (HSP)
- Learn the proper course of actions to take during a site emergency
- Understand safe methods and work practice controls
- Recognize signs and labels used to alert personnel of dangers involving hazardous materials
Completion Instructions, Requirements, and Checklist
Per OSHA, students must complete a minimum of 8 hours (self-paced) training online, and pass a graded final exam with a score of 70% or higher.
- Credit Education Units: This course qualifies for 1.0 American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) Credit Education Units (CEU’s)
- Duration: 8-10 Hours – Minimum 8 Hours
- Prerequisites: This OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER course requires that students have first, successfully completed either the 24 or 40-Hour HAZWOPER, and have maintained certification through annual refresher training. If certification has not been kept current under OSHA guidelines (each successive year after completing the initial 24 or 40 Hour HAZWOPER), the 24 or 40 Hour HAZWOPER must be re-taken prior to registering for this course.

- Hands-on Training Determination: “Hazardous waste operations can involve many complex and hazardous tasks. It is imperative that employees be able to perform such tasks safely. Thus, auditing of worker performance is required for all types of HAZWOPER training. The employer may determine that hands-on training is unnecessary for a given refresher course. However, if an employer elects not to use hands-on training in their refresher course, the employer must first assess the employees’ skill level, and ensure that workers remain competent in their current and any newly assigned duties.”

- Simplified: If the student requires site-specific hands on training, this responsibility remains with employers. The course covers the mandated training per 29 CFR 1910.120 for general industry, and 29 CFR 1926.65 for the construction industry. The content in this course is provided as a basis for the worker. In order to achieve safe work practices, the information in this course must be applied at the worksite, and it is the employers responsibility to enforce the applicable standards!
