ATaCRSPH Level 3 Award in Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures Training

This RSPH asbestos air monitoring and clearance procedures qualification is approved by the qualifications regulator, Ofqual. This Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) qualification has been designed to provide the theory and practical knowledge and skills required for use of microscopes and fibre counting to WHO rules, air sampling and 4-stage clearance procedures. It has been developed around HSG248 Asbestos: The Analysts Guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.

UKAS document LAB30 ‘Application of ISO/IEC 17025 for Asbestos Sampling and Testing’, states that all asbestos analysts carrying out air monitoring and 4 stage clearances must hold formal recognised qualifications (in addition to demonstrable knowledge, experience and in-house training). This qualification is recognised by UKAS for this purpose.

Our tutors have extensive industry knowledge and experience in delivering this qualification. Candidates can take this qualification at an Asbestos Testing and Consultancy Association venue across the country and throughout the year.

Candidates are assessed on their practical competence, which culminates in a written exam (short answer questions), which is set and administered in conjunction with RSPH.

The units covered are:

  • Health, safety and legal aspects relating to asbestos
  • Theory of air sampling, fibre counting and clearance procedure for asbestos analysts
  • Practical air sampling. fibre counting, and clearance procedure for asbestos analysts
  • Use of decontamination units and H-type vacuums

On successful completion of the exam and practical task candidates will be awarded a nationally recognised RSPH certificate.

Pre-requisites

Candidates are required to have prior knowledge of all areas which are defined within the Qualification Information booklet attendance and have sufficient practical experience.

Also candidates should complete the pre-reading before attendance. 

Candiates will require a microscope and ancillary equipment for all fours days. If required a microscope can be hired by contacting ATaC on 01283 505777 prior to attendance.

Duration

  • Four days at an ATaC / ARCA centre.
  • Exam only and re-sit days are run on the last Friday of every scheduled qualification.
