Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) training. EOD levels I, II, III and III+SafeLane Global’s comprehensive explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) training courses are based on its 30 years’ operational experience, and its training personnel’s unmatched qualifications, skills and professionalism. All training courses are underpinned by the company’s rigorous standard operating procedures (SOPs), certified by ISO 9001:2015. In turn, these SOPs are based on CEN Workshop Agreements and International Mine Action Standards (IMAS). SafeLane Global trains personnel from EOD level I through to EOD level III+ in approximately six months, depending on the calibre and previous experience of the student. Standard training courses can be extended to ensure relevancy for specific in-country threats, or the specific needs of students. The addition of forensic analysis as part of consider, defeat and disposal training is also possible. To support SafeLane Global’s EOD and C-IED training modules, a wide variety of specialised equipment, standard military ordnance and improvised explosive devises training aids are used to support classroom and practical exercises. Inert training aids enable instructors to create realistic training scenarios that include the wide variety of known IED triggers such as radio controlled IED (RCIED), victim operated IED (VOIED), suicide vest IED (SVIED) and vehicle borne IED (VBIED). SafeLane Global uses the highest qualified and skilled instructors, all of whom are ex-military and have full commercial experience as well. For those with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) level III experience, SafeLane Global provides current NATO qualified and experienced trainers to deliver comprehensive C-IED training packages to EOD level III+. Explosive hazard awareness training (EHAT) is designed for all ranks of all arms of service to enable personnel to safely operate in an IED threat environment, apply best practice and reduce casualties. Personnel are trained to recognise threat indicators which enhances their situational awareness. They are also taught best practice procedures for when a suspicious item is located, or in the event of an uncontrolled IED initiation.
Introductory search courseThe introductory search course is designed for students who’ve completed the explosive hazard awareness training course and have been identified as having an aptitude for search. This course trains students in the techniques required to conduct correct person, rummage and vehicle search with the equipment available to them. This training will help in limiting the movement of illicit materials, thereby increasing safety and limiting the ability of adversaries to mount attacks.
Route search courseThe route search courses SafeLane Global delivers assist force mobility by the use of targeted search in those locations where an improvised explosive device (IED) is most likely to be used to target military operations. This is a unit level course and enables the searching of assessed vulnerable points (VP) and vulnerable areas (VA) along a defined route for the presence of IEDs. It provides students with the knowledge, skills and ability to be able to identify a potential VP or VA, and determine how best they should be searched to locate, isolate or render safe IED threats.
Initial to theatre courseThe initial to theatre course supports training needs analysis (TNA) and is designed for improvised explosive device disposal (IEDD) teams already deployed. It assists commanders in assessing further training requirements. IEDD teams are assessed in realistic country-specific IED and conventional munitions disposal (CMD) scenarios using explosive ordnance disposal (EOD)/IEDD equipment. All IEDD teams participate in an assessment to determine their competence levels, and to better target theatre specific training where it is required. SafeLane Global’s training personnel also assist with training needs analysis of operational tasks and identification of capability gaps.
Conventional munitions disposal course (CMD)The conventional munitions disposal (CMD) course is for personnel who will deploy as part of a conventional munitions disposal team. Training is designed for specific operational contexts, with a CMD team consisting of 3 personnel who should be trained as a team. The course provides the knowledge, skills and ability to allow personnel to understand and dispose of conventional munitions safely.
Improvised explosive device disposal (IEDD) courseThe improvised explosive device disposal course equips candidates with the knowledge and practical skillset to be members of an IEDD team. They will have the competence to operate in a safe, effective and efficient manner once an IED is located. Candidates are trained to operate as part of three-man teams and are required to be CMD qualified. The training provided allows successful candidates to employ correct drills for deployment, arrival drills, witness questioning, IED threat assessment, plan and carry out IEDD render safe procedures, post render safe procedures and reporting. Candidates are trained in the use of remote, semi-remote and manual techniques for disposing of IEDs, and the selection of correct techniques for the incidents they face.
Explosive ordnance locate isolate destroy in situ (EOLIDiS) courseThe explosive ordnance locate isolate destroy course equips personnel deployed in the EOLIDiS role with the ability to safely and efficiently locate IEDs and destroy them in-situ after they have been located and isolated by a route search team. The EOLIDiS capability is designed for rapid mobility support in an IED threat environment where tactical constraints prevent the deployment of a fully trained and equipped IEDD team. It is a supplementary capability to the full IEDD capability.
Remote operated vehicle (ROV) courseThe remote operated vehicle course can be run in conjunction with the IEDD course, or as a standalone course to enhance ROV skills. Enhanced ROV capabilities increase the speed and safety of IEDD operations. The overall aim of this course is to train the ROV operator in the operation of the ROV, appropriate handling and maintenance, troubleshooting, and providing the confidence to make full use of the ROV’s capability in the field.
Bomb arm operators’ courseThis course is aimed at training IEDD No.2 and No.3 operators to be competent armoured mine protected vehicle (MPV) bomb arm operators. The bomb arm equipped MPV will serve as a safe platform for advancing forward towards a dangerous area to investigate and confirm possible IEDs, prior to the use of remote means of disruption/destruction.
Mine protected vehicle courseThe objective of this course is to enable the students to be licensed to safely, efficiently and effectively drive armoured MPVs in support of operational missions.
Palletised loading system (PLS) vehicle driver courseThe palletised loading system course enables students to be certified to safely, efficiently and effectively operate PLS trucks in support of operations. This course trains drivers to transport stores and equipment thereby increasing force support and logistical capabilities. Students are required to have prior training on heavy vehicles and will be subject to an initial driving test prior to enrolment on the PLS course.
Low-bed driver courseIn SafeLane Global’s experience, as force missions expand, forward operating bases and sector HQs require maintenance or construction work. These operations require plant vehicles, as well as other machines to be transported to these locations. Having qualified low-bed drivers and fork-lift operators assist in supporting these objectives. The low-bed driver course also trains students to use fork-lift machinery to load low-beds. Students are required to have prior training on heavy vehicles and provide practical evidence of this.
