Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard, administered by Health Canada in conjunction with provincial and territorial regulatory bodies. The key elements of the system are the labeling of dangerous materials, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.

HSE’s WHMIS program provides an introduction to the identification and handling of hazardous materials in the workplace. The course covers labels and MSDSs, and aims to educate workers on how to protect themselves when working with hazardous materials.
