The objective of this four-hour course is to give participants an introduction to the hazards associated with entering confined spaces. A further objective is to ensure that students demonstrate basic understanding of the methods of controlling these risks.

This one-day course is designed to reintroduce participants to the hazards and practices related to working in a confined space environment. It covers the same material as the introductory course but is not as in-depth. It also touches upon rescue considerations. The course meets the minimum requirements for workers and supervisors that enter into confined spaces. The refresher course is only available if the Confined Space Entry Level 2 course is within one year of expiry.

The HSE Integrated Confined Space Monitor Course is approved by the Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA). It is five hours when taught as a stand-alone program, or one hour when taken the same day as the Confined Space Entry Basics course.

Having the proper firefighting equipment and the skill to implement correct operations and procedures enables personnel to control and extinguish a fire. Understanding the sources and causes of fires is necessary for preventing them. This course also discusses fire extinguisher handling and fire suppression with 20- or 30-pound dry-chemical extinguishers.

This course offers a practical approach to using gas detection equipment. Covered are explosive ranges, toxic atmospheres and oxygen levels. Also included is instruction in proper bump test procedures and practical exercises.
