Hydrocarbon Forensics Webinar : Part 2 - Video

SHARE
Quantitative data generated by most environmental laboratories is sufficient to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards. However, when questions on project-specific issues, such as contaminant source or sources, or degree of weathering in an impact must be answered, environmental forensic analyses plays a crucial role in building a comprehensive argument supporting the: 1) nature of an impact; 2) degree of weathering; 3) comparability of the investigative samples to a suspect source or sources; and 4) rough age dating.

Part two of this three-part webinar on hydrocarbon forensics addresses analytical applications in fuel oil and heavier hydrocarbon forensics.

In this webinar, you will learn about:
• Analytical tools used in forensic characterizations of fuel oil releases, including: kerosenes; diesels; and heating oils, as well as heavier hydrocarbon releases such as hydraulic fluids, motor and lubricating oils, and asphalts, as well as crude oils
• Specific fuel additives, as well as petroleum and plant biomarkers used to distinguish the nature and weathering in different petroleum products
• How laboratory data is used to support compelling arguments as to the nature, source and age of a release
• The advantages and limitations of specific analytical approaches in fuel oil forensics (e.g. Cristensen – Larson Model for Age Dating)
• How laboratory results are applied in different situations using real-world case studies
