BÜCHI Labortechnik AG

Chromatography laboratory instrumentation for environmental analysis sector - Monitoring and Testing - Environmental Monitoring

A clean and safe environment is a pre-requisite for health and quality of life. BUCHI contributes to this by providing market-leading solutions for sample preparation and analysis to a wide range of industrial companies, environmental testing labs, consultants, and government authorities.

BUCHI offers dedicated extraction solutions for residue and contaminant analysis in various matrices. We cover the whole range of automated extraction methods, from Soxhlet, to hot extraction and pressurized solvent extraction. Our solutions allow for perfect integration in the workflow, thus minimizing manual steps.

Environmental soil, water, air and waste samples are usually extracted with an organic solvent which is subsequently concentrated before final analysis to overcome detection limits. Our time saving, flexible and highly efficient solutions guarantee maximum reproducibility and highest recovery rates.

Nitrogen Determination

Monitoring of organic and inorganic nitrogen is important to ensure the quality of fresh and waste water, agricultural soils and air. Either the total nitrogen content or the different species (e.g. organic nitrogen, inorganic nitrogen, ammonia, nitrate, urea) are of interest. Nitrogen is one of the main factors contributing to algae growth in water. If lake water contains too much nitrogen, this is an indicator of pollution from manure or fertilizers and leads to low oxygen content in the water harming aquatic organisms.

Acid Digestion and Incineration

With BUCHI’s solution for Reflux digestion up to 12 samples are digested simultaneously at homogeneous conditions to transfer the analyte into the measurable property for final ICP analysis, titration or gravimetrical ash determination.

Analytical laboratories use solid phase extraction to concentrate and purify samples for analysis or to extract liquid samples, as e.g. water. With the help of the modified parallel evaporator, Syncore, all essential work-up steps including evaporation of the eluates are achieved without any sample handling between the individual steps. The accessories are compatible with standard Luer-tipped SPE columns or filter discs.
