Nov. 8-12, 2009 Seattle
The 2009 Annual Conference will provide a forum for participants to explore the many multidisciplinary aspects of water resources. In addition to the diverse mix of technical sessions offered at all AWRA conferences, we will focus attention on a broad range of technical, social and legal topics that are of national and international interest, including conflicts over water and efforts to resolve them; recent advances in water resource monitoring, modeling and analysis; effects and responses to drought, floods, and other natural calamities; and collaborative efforts to address transboundary and international water issues. Regional topics will highlight efforts to protect and clean up Puget Sound, and address emerging issues on the Columbia River, salmon recovery and stormwater management. Of special interest to AWRA members, the 2009 conference will comprise many special topic sessions, including a presentation and panel discussion of the findings of AWRA’s ongoing “Water Resources Concerns in the Next Decade” project, an in-depth survey of AWRA members by IMPACT editors that will elucidate the most important water-related issues facing our country, and identify actions necessary to address them.
Jun. 29, 2009 - Jul. 1, 2009 Snowbird
This conference is intended to engage the key managers, researchers and “on the ground” practitioners that currently are setting the trends relative to designing and implementing adaptive management programs. The overall goal remains the establishment of a forum where we can learn more about the basis, theories and practical aspects of adaptive management; where we can gain a better perspective about national, regional and local directions, requirements and needs; and where we can share experiences in order to improve our existing programs and to develop more rigorous, credible future adaptive management programs.
May. 4-6, 2009 Anchorage
Meeting topics will include meeting future water-supply needs, drought and flood co-management, ecosystem impacts, and water-management challenges. Additionally, since the Arctic is a place where change is expected to occur sooner and with greater effect, Alaska will be an ideal place to examine the many changes that are happening locally and effects on meeting the young state`s development interests and the nation`s energy needs. Interested water-resource professionals are encouraged to submit abstracts on these and other related topics of national and international interest. This meeting promises to be one of a kind in showcasing current thinking in this dynamic field. The outcomes of this conference will help set the foundation for continued dialogue and conversations on how to manage and adapt to changing water-resources conditions and needs for many years to come.
Jun. 25-27, 2007 Vail
