Buckman Laboratories International, Inc. applications

Buckman offers chemicals to tissue makers to improve wicking and therefore absorbency, which is critical for towel grades. Absorbency is a key performance characteristic for toweling grades. The market for toweling products continues to demand increasing wet and dry tensile strength, which often has an inverse relationship with both absorbency rate and capacity. Additionally, the use of recycled fiber sources containing hydrophobic materials (such as sizing components) for the manufacture of toweling grades will impact on absorbency and can lead to absorbency reversion over time (aging).

Clean your paper mill systems while reducing corrosion, organic demand and toxicity with Buckman’s boilout chemical programs. Buckman deposit control and boilout programs include formulas specially created to reduce corrosion, organic demand and toxicity in your systems while providing superior performance.

Control charge demand and anionic trash in paper systems with Buckman’s charge control chemicals. Wet end chemistry is dominated by colloidal chemistry. Most chemical interactions occur at the component surfaces. Colloids often carry an electrical charge on their surfaces that results from the presence of anionic, or cationic groups. Because most molecular interactions in paper machine stock systems are surface-charge interactions, chemical additives must be carefully selected. The selected additives, plus their addition points and rates, must take into account the surface charge characteristics of the additives and all of the other furnished components.

Increase pulp brightness, reduce brightness reversion and inhibit scale with Buckman’s chelants/metals management chemicals. These unique and proprietary aqueous solutions provide specific control of iron, manganese, and copper. These products are used to chelate metal ions and can increase brightness and reduce brightness reversion in mechanical pulps, chemical pulps, and coatings. They also function as scale inhibitors and anti-precipitation agents for scales caused by calcium, iron, and other polyvalent metal ions.

Improve defoaming, drainage, deposit control and deaeration with our pulp and paper defoamer chemicals. Pulp washing aids from Buckman can help with some of the pulp and paper mill’s biggest problems – defoaming, drainage, deposits, and deaeration.  We also provide technology for monitoring entrained air in pulp and paper systems.

Improve brightness and yield with repulping and deinking chemicals for recycled pulp. Buckman’s repulping and deinking chemistries for recycled fiber provide enhanced operation in the deink plant. Our product line is designed to improve ink removal while maximizing yield and brightness. Your Buckman representative and technical support team can design a program that is right for your operation.

Eliminate or significantly reduce nitrogen, improve your sustainability profile and achieve tighter, fuller and cleaner pelts using deliming and bating systems. Buckman offers deliming and bating products that enable consistent and superior leathers to be produced. Nitrogen-free deliming agents and low-nitrogen systems support the production of leathers with improved sustainability profiles by reducing the levels of nitrogen entering the effluent treatment process. Bating enzymes promote the production of tight, flat, smooth, clean and silky grains with improved opening of the collagen fiber.

Chemicals for deposit control, stickies control, boilouts and more help keep pulp and papermaking systems clean. From controlling stickies  and wet end deposits on your paper machines to efficient boilouts and dryer felt cleaning, Buckman’s enzymatic and other advanced technologies help you improve worker safety, lower chemical costs and reduce downtime and maintenance.
