Calgon Carbon Corporation applications
The mining industry relies on Calgon Carbon’s Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) to recover gold and other precious metals. Calgon Carbon’s ISEP® Technology is used to recover precious, rare earth and base metals, uranium, copper, nickel and zinc from ore, waste and reclaim streams. Our high-quality activated carbons have been developed and successfully proven to maximize efficiency by reducing the loss of precious metals and the consumption of carbon in three precious metal extraction techniques: Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP) and Carbon-in-Column (CIC). When Ion Exchange is employed for metal recovery in leach and waste streams, Calgon Carbon’s ISEP ® system provides a continuous, consistent and high purity concentrated product while minimizing the use of chemicals, resin and wastes. Calgon Carbon’s continuous ion exchange systems are the most flexible, robust, and accepted in the industry.
Our activated carbons provide personal defense solutions against vapors, gases, air particles, and dust. Proven Experience: Since 1942, Calgon Carbon has been helping the world breath more easily by providing the most technologically advanced activated carbons for personal and collective protection filters. Today, we supply high-quality impregnated carbon for military, industrial, and laboratory markets. As new needs for personal protection emerge, we will continue to develop new products and find innovative uses for existing ones.
Ballast Water Solutions. Ship ballasts often carry aquatic organisms that can cause a significant problem when transported from one body of water to another. In fact, the invasion of non-native species via ballast water has been described by maritime and environmental authorities as `one of the greatest threats to the world`s waterways.`
Federal and State regulatory agencies are increasingly requiring additional water quality testing and controls of the toxicity of discharges to receiving streams. Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) helps meet these pollution regulations. If organic chemicals have been identified as contributing to discharge toxicity, Calgon Carbon Corporation can work with facilities, and their engineering firms, to help meet stringent criteria associated with their NPDES permit. GAC can be employed as a cost-effective treatment for removal of organic compounds and toxicity. Even in situations where activated sludge treatment or powdered activated carbon is used for primary wastewater treatment, post treatment with GAC may be necessary to achieve toxicity compliance.
For the removal of mercury emissions from flue gas streams, Calgon Carbon`s specialty PAC products are proven industry performers. These industries include: Coal-fired electric power plants, Cement, Boilers.
