Carus Corporation applications

Carus permanganates have been used in private and public drinking water applications for more than 40 years. Municipal drinking water plants use CAIROX® and AQUOX® potassium permanganates, and CARUSOL® liquid permanganate in both ground water (well) and surface water for Pretreatment, Pre-oxidation and Organics Removal. Today, municipal water providers face increased challenges as more stringent regulations are enacted and public awareness regarding water quality becomes heightened.

In the treatment of sanitary sewage, bio-solids are separated from the liquid. These bio-solids are concentrated and dewatered using filter presses, centrifuges, or other devices. Hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans are released during the dewatering operation.  Carus permanganates react quickly and produce immediate results for hydrogen sulfide removal in order to provide a safe, odor free environment and minimize corrosion due to sulfides.

Wastewater lagoons are utilized to collect and stabilize wastewater. Approximately one third of all U.S. secondary waste treatment facilities employ some type of pond system. Lagoons can become septic, or contain compounds that product significant odors.

Whether a collection system is handling domestic, commercial, or industrial waste; grease accumulation causes problems in wet wells, lift stations and pipelines. Problems with grease include interference with wet well level controls, reduced wet well capacity, plugging of pipes and pumps, and unsafe working conditions.

Carus Corporation is the manufacturer of a series of manganese based catalysts, called CARULITE® catalysts. These Hopcalite type catalysts are used for breathable air purification, emission air purification, and process air purification.

In crude oil refining, our technologies are successfully applied during plant turnarounds to remove pyrophoric iron sulfide scale, reducing the threat of exothermic reactions and toxic sulfide odor production.
