Emissions Monitoring Services
ndustrial processes which emit to atmosphere do so under permit granted by the Environment Agency or the Local Authority. The permit would define the permissible limits for the various pollutants emitted by the process. Some processes may have continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) installed providing real time data on the emissions whilst other processes would be subject to periodic testing. In both cases independent testing of emissions is a requirement of tahe permit. The company undertaking third party testing is required to have certification by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 17025 and CEN/TS 15675 and also be approved by UKAS under the Environment Agency`s Monitoring Certification Scheme (MCERTS). Personnel who conduct the tests must also have qualification under that scheme.BS EN 14181 Testing Services
BS EN 14181, Quality Assurance of Automated Measuring Systems, is a European Standard which applies to automated emissions monitoring instrumentation installed on large combustion plant or waste incineration. With the array of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) available choosing the right one for a particular application can be a daunting task. Initial capital investment in any system will run into thousands of pounds allied to which are the longer term service and maintenance costs.Clearly the environment within an emitting stack will be the greatest factor in determining the type of CEMS best suited to the task.
