Technical Due Diligence (TDD) Services

The devil’s in the details. This applies in particular to the complex interfaces of technical, regulatory, economic and financial requirements for wind energy projects. Whether you think about buying individual projects, a project portfolio or even the acquisition of an entire company – we support you with a solid technical due diligence, also during project construction and commissioning. During operation, we act as your Owner's Engineer or Lender's Technical Advisor. We offer our expertise on special questions such as the decision on repowering, continued operation or dismantling at the end of design lifetime. We are happy to suggest a suitable scope of work in advance. Depending on the stage of your project or size of project portfolio in question, we discuss the scope of work and the review depth with you and adapt both to your individual needs: from the review of existing energy yield assessments up to the technical assumptions in the cash flow model.

Site Assessment

Determination of Shadow Immission

Residents living in close proximity of a single wind turbine and especially entire wind farms, often feel they polute the landscape. Apart from the influence of wind turbines on the look of the scenery, shadow casting is of major importance at the receptor points in the area. Turning rotor blades cause a flashing effect by blocking sunlight that is often perceived by residents as very disturbing. Therefore, the determination of optical emissions of wind turbines is an essential part of wind farm planning.

Noise Propagation

`Wind Turbines are noisy` – that bias is often heard during discussions about wind energy. Residents living in close proximity to wind farms often feel molested by the generated noise. Subsequently, propagation of noise immissions at noise receptor points at a designated site are part of the approval process prior to the erection of wind turbines in many countries. The preceived pollution intensity does not only depend on wind speed but also on site specific conditions. The critical noise immision limit is directly dependent on how nearby structures are utilized. If a wind farm exceeds the legal noise immission limits, individual turbines may have to be derated or shut down. After completion of the wind farm the actual noise immission is usually also verified by a measurement.

Anemometer Calibration

The use of wind tunnel-calibrated anemometers is necessary in order to identify the wind resource at planned wind farm sites. Deutsche WindGuard offers anemometer and wind vane calibration and classification services using two out of four company-owned wind tunnels.

Wind Tunnel Centre

Anemometer Calibrations Services

With more than 15,000 DAkkS-accredited anemometer calibrations annually, the WindGuard Wind Tunnel Centre is the first choice for many manufacturers and developers worldwide. Our four Calibration Wind Tunnels are accredited and officially recognised by the NMI (National Metrology Institute), which regularly performs comparative measurements here. At our Wind Tunnel Centre, one finds the German national standard for the unit of `meters per second` in air currents. Through experience with over 300 different types of sensors, their own research, and participation in all relevant bodies of the wind industry, Wind Guard secures for now, and in the future, its global leadership in Anemometer Calibration.

Anemometer Classification Services

At WindGuard, all measurements for classification according to IEC 61400 are possible: startup behaviour, dynamic behaviour, measurements regarding the influence of temperature and the response to inclined flow, free-field measurements, measurements of wind direction, and the influence of air density. Thanks to six calibration and research wind tunnels and a fully equipped wind measuring mast, WindGuard steadily develops its knowledge and quality lead. Our own research and cooperation in all relevant bodies underline our claim as the foremost experts in all matters relating to anemometers. A WindGuard Certificate continues to stand for the best in technology.
