Since January 2013, E-Flux has been a client company of Colorado State University (CSU) Ventures, an organization dedicated to the transfer and commercialization of innovative technologies discovered at CSU. E-Flux's offices and labs are housed at CSU's Research and Innovation Center.

Fossil Fuel Traps were invented by a team led by Dr. Julio A. ZImbron at Colorado State University Center for Contaminant Hydrology (CSU CCH), within CSU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Developed with funding from industry sponsors including Chevron and Suncor Energy, the Fossil Fuel Traps were conceived as a cost-effective solution to the complex problem of accurately measuring petroleum biodegredation rates in soil at petroleum spill sites.

To meet the needs of this growing customer base, the technology was migrated from CSU to E-Flux, a private company founded by Dr. Zimbron to offer Fossil Fuel Traps to customers and provide them with customized analysis of the data collected. This proprietary technology has been implemented at petroleum-impacted field sites around the world, including active and closed refineries, rail yards, gasoline stations, and industrial facilities.

E-Flux continues to develop new technologies to meet the needs of contaminated sites, including state of the art UV-based monitoring of LNAPL in soils.
